Yolanda. Non sono mai pienamente nata
Yolanda.
Parte di me è rimasta impigliata
dentro un ventre di madre fuggitiva,
in un abbraccio scomposto e scomparso
di camicie bianche di cotone.
Non sono ancora pienamente nata,
ma mi descrive la forma dell’ombra
nella trasparenza compiuta,
capace di ardimentosi voli
e proiezioni infinite,
inarrestabile nel moto,
inafferrabile.
Posso ciò che non puoi.
Sono vicina e lontana,
ma tu chiama.
Resto in questa strutturata immaturità,
in questa nudità che cela
infinite nudità stratificate
e tardivi travagli.
Ma tu canta il mio nome.
Chiama e canta,
e io mi partorisco
cucendomi addosso
la mia stessa ombra.

Yolanda. I Was Never Fully Born
Yolanda. I Was Never Fully Born arises from the need to restore presence to an erased figure: a woman excluded because she did not conform to the gaze that expected her to be otherwise. The dress, made of Sardinian sheep’s wool, wire mesh, carded wool and coloured threads, approaches the body as a place of fracture, memory and transformation. The opening in the chest makes visible a loss of self, orientation and belonging; at the same time, it turns the void into an inhabitable cavity, a space from which another form of life may emerge. The work explores the relationship between identity, wound and the possibility of reconstruction. The installation is accompanied by a poetic text arranged on the wall as a long line.
I was never fully born.
Part of me remained caught
inside the womb of a fugitive mother,
in a broken and vanished embrace
of white cotton shirts.
I am not yet fully born,
yet the shape of shadow defines me
in fulfilled transparency,
capable of daring flights
and endless projections,
unstoppable in motion,
elusive.
I can do what you cannot.
I am near and far,
but call me.
I remain in this structured immaturity,
in this nakedness that conceals
infinite layered nakednesses
and belated labours.
But sing my name.
Call and sing,
and I give birth to myself,
sewing onto my body
my own shadow.
